How we work
When you come here you will decide whether WorkAbility is the right employment agency for you. You will then register with us but if we are full, you might need to wait. We will let you know as soon as WorkAbility can begin to work with you.
We will complete a Registration form and ask for your Background Information. This is about your skills, your needs and your goals.
We try to help those with the greatest need, and treat all people equally.
- Your Job Coordinator will go through the Information book and the Service standards.
- You can receive our Newsletter and you can join our Client Committee if you want.
- We like to hear your ideas about how we can improve WorkAbility.
- You can bring a friend, family member or advocate to meetings.
- You can let us know if you have any language or cultural needs.
Your individual work plan
You will do an Individual Work Plan with your Job Coordinator. This will have Goals & Steps. You can do a fresh plan every six months or earlier if you want.
In your Individual Work Plan you might have things like getting your license, going for interviews, improving reading and writing, doing a training course, getting a certificate, looking for jobs, work experience in different workplaces or work training at the Workable Skills Project.
Pre employment training
We will provide you with practical skills that are valued in all workplaces, an individual training plan that meets your needs, support while you learn and lots of fun for example: Workable Skills, situated at Bournda, has been in operation since 1997 and provides pre-employment training for jobseekers with a disability in Occupational Health and Safety, manual handling, horticultural and social skills in an Orchid Nursery environment. If you have a disability and want to improve your chance of getting a job the Workable skills program can help
When you get a job
We will do an Individual Job Plan together. We will provide support and training. You might need some help with getting there on time, getting the right pay, transport to work, clothes for work, safety at work, knowing what the boss wants and learning new skills at work. Your Job Coordinator will provide on the job training, if you need and want it, and they can talk to your employer and supervisors to help you succeed at work
Independent at Work
WorkAbility will stay in touch with you, but once you, your employer and Job Coordinator agree that you don’t need us you will be independent at work. You can come back to WorkAbility if your job changes and you need to learn new skills at work, you want to leave work and get a new job, you lose your job or if you have any concerns at all.
Leaving WorkAbility

- are not work ready because of problems in your life, such as problems with medication, drugs, alcohol or the law
- are independent at work or we don’t hear from you for six months
