Community Participation
WorkAbility's Community Participation for School Leavers assists young people to make a successful transition from school to life in the community through the activities of their choice. The Individual Plan involves all parties, family, friends, advocates or relevant service providers of the young person's choice. Participants are provided with current information about local opportunities from which to choose their individual learning, developmental, social and community activities. These can be enjoyed in group contexts, for example "Women's groups" with guest speakers around health, nutrition, sexuality, craft, the law and makeovers or the group of young men who play golf together. Individually or collectively skill development occurs around living skills such as budgeting, money matters, cooking, healthy lifestyle, travel training social and community access. The options are vast and dependent on individual choice and need. It is an exciting and supportive way to make the transition to adulthood.
Becoming a Worker
One of the components of the Transition to Work Program is the accredited Certificate I course “Becoming a Worker” (BAW). Completion of BAW enables participants to access and develop pre - vocational skills, identify current work skills and areas where there is room for improvement.
